SOTD: Toronto Part 2

28 Oct

Every city deserves love from its own.

Here’s another one for us. Ron D decided to do a mix of Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind” and put the fabulous Kim Davis as the songstress for the chorus. Came out pretty good, and my name made it sound even better. Yea, major boost there I know, especially when you hear my name lol.

Shoutouts to the beautiful city of TORONTO. There are so many places that I still need to explore in Toronto, but from what I know- I’m already in love with.

Fresh Not Frozen

5 Oct

Good Evening,

What a long and grueling weekend under my belt. Every minute I was on the move, which is cool. Saturday night of course was the Torontofresh Party “Fresh Not Frozen“. Thanks to everybody that came out and had fun, myself and my friends surely did. The music was poppin, but again what do you expect with Rych Kydd and Spoonz? The kept it going, I swear I was the most excited when I heard “Gimme More”. I kid you not- you don’t hear those kind of tunes in the club. Here are some of the pics:

30 Aug

I swear to you, there ain’t nothing like partying with Torontofresh. Real talk. It’s never a dull moment.

This past Friday I attended the “Photogenic” party for a bit and then “Summerbody Fit” (granted). The rain was tsunami-ish, it was absoultely ri-damn-diculous. I was expecting so much more from the last Friday in August but I should’ve known better. Thank God, I brought my umbrella with me or else I would have been down and out. The music was good at Photogenic but Summerbody Fit the music was POPPIN! Oh man, the guy/girl battles were hilarious! I haven’t been in a club and heard “No Scrubs” playing and the women SCREAMING the words at the fellas, only for “No Pigeons” to come in lol. Then “Bills, Bills, Bills” followed by “Chickenhead”, clever stuff. The MJ Tribute (Happy Birthday MJ!) followed by the Aaliyah set at the end (R.I.P Babygirl) was live. Goodtimes as usual.

*To my ladies I was rolling with, you all looked hella fly*

It’s it’s it’s the GUMBY

12 Jul

… just in case you never know!

As I mentioned before on Thursday night I attended the Blake Carrington show at the Drake Hotel with the rest of Torontofresh. The show started late since people do not know how to show up on time *tsk tsk*.  The show started with KJ and again he did the damn thing. If you still haven’t seen KJ perform, he’s the artist that hits the stage and has a such a cool confidence. The music is already hot but when he performs it, you feel it that much more. KJ will be performing July 18th @ Rollys Garage located at 124 Ossington Ave. Check him out!

….” lights camera action welcome to my movie, Blake Carrington is a smooth oppurtunity”.

Oh Blake, what more can I say that I haven’t already said. If you didn’t know, Blake will be heading off to LA for a little bit to be on his grind. This show was a slap in your mouth telling everyone “Don’t Sleep on me”. Word.  Blake did his thing as usual but tonight was so different. At times I stood there just staring up at him with a smile on my face. I had a strong sense of pride and admiration for him. It’s a beautiful thing when you know that someone you care about is on the verge of achieving their hopes and dreams. The set was amazing, he brought out Shane Tone for another smash performance of “Summerbody Fit” and the crowd went nuts. There was alot of family values as well as he also brought out his brother Keegan Da’niro (hey baby lol) and his DAD (De Dot) to perform. The love between Blake and Keegan and Blake and his father was so apparent. Kodak moments indeed.

The final portion of the show was quite nostalgic as the former members of BFDM (Brothers from Different Mothers) as well as some fellow artists got up on stage to show Blake some love and give him kind words. This lead into an encore performance of “Summerbody Fit” and then Blake spit a ridiculous freestyle.  That concluded the whole show, because really how could you follow up anything after that?

*I have about 200 pictures from this event so I may update some each day, we’ll see how I feel*

What a Night!

19 Jun

In continuation of my last post, this is how the night played out.  Upon leaving Curtis’ performance we headed downtown to meet up with Michelle and then head down to the other show.

This time we took in performances by Blake Carrington, Daniel Daley and KJ. Fabness indeed. This show had more of an intimate vibe which was great, all the performers had a good time interacting with their audience. The show started off with KJ, who again killed it. If you guys still haven’t caught one of his shows, you’re still slipping.

Blake Show June 16th 050

Next out the gate was R&B Crooner, Daniel Daley. He started off his set by singing his hit single “Girlfriend”, then had a heart to heart talk with the ladies before serenading with his song “Wanna be  Loved”.  After slowing it down with “Body Smile”, Daniel laughed and joked while imitating John Legend and doing a snippet of some Boyz II Men (hotttttt).  The crowd then began to chant ”…..4 play, 4 play, 4 play”, which lead to an impromptu performance with Ron D .  With that kind of love how could you deny such an eager crowd? That song concluded Daniels set.

Blake Show June 16th 063

By this point the crowd was already amped when Blake Carrington was called out to the stage. I’ll keep it short and sweet with this one, Blake did not disappoint. He kept us all moving, shaking and jumping. The man knows how to work the crowd. When Shane Tone came out to perform the banger “Summer body fit” it was already a wrap (look out for the dance coming soon).  The crowd was so live, it was ridiculous! Another great performance to add to Blakes already long list.

Blake Show June 16th 081

If the performances weren’t good enough, the night ended with a crazy jam. DJ James Redi and DJ Makem held-it-down! Oh my. We heard the likes of The Pointer Sisters, Diana Ross, DJ Class, Stevie Wonder, Daft Punk, Jay-Z, Curtis Blow, etc. Everybody just had a good ol’ time dancing the night away.

Another successful night in my books.

Shoutouts to: Tameka (I’m glad you took the time to come out mama, even though you missed the actual performances), Jesse (wuddup Blackie lol lol), Princess (again clothes are dope! Look out for her line y’all, it’s called “Alchemus”), Curtis (I’m shouting you out again, just cause you’re live lol).

It’s obvious I have to show love for Asia Fiasco, Mego aka the Cheetah Print Don, Willy T, Shane Tone and definitely not least Michelle. Y’all held me down for the night.

Blake Carrington Crazy

Blake C Show 10th 035Finally,I mean FINALLY. It is about damn time, I’m able to post up my official coverage from the show.

So without further adieu here is my scoop from the night.

If you didn’t know already the show went down at The College St Bar located on 574 College St, TORONTO on June 10th. Ron D had a big hand in putting on the this event (good work) making sure everything ran smoothly. The resident DJ’s of the night, DJ James Redi and DJ Makem held it down before and during the performances. The show started a bit late (damn black people lol) but it started off with a bang. KJ an up and coming rapper from Toronto opened things up. Now I’ve been hearing about KJ for a minute, but never had the chance to take in his music or see him perform live. I’m glad that I was given the oppurtunity cause he’s fire. He has a cool laidback vibe to him and his music reflects that.

Needless to say, I was impressed.

After his set, the main act came out swinging. Blake Carrington tore that joint down. If you guys are not acquainted with Mr Blake C, then you better get familiar. I’ve known Blake for years now and I must say he continues to grow into a better artist.  Blake captivates the stage each time he goes out there with his charm and charisma. You can just see the hunger in his eyes when he’s performing. The females were hanging on to his every word especially through his lead single “Dreamgirl” and the unreleased “Summer Body fit” feat Shane Tone. Throughout his set he brought out the likes of Rich Kidd, Keegan Da’Niro (my baby daddy lol) and KJ .  They all brought something special to the stage.

There was a good turnout *thanks y’all*. Special shoutouts to my fly homies Megz & Char (2/3 of the discombobulated tricks), Michelle (you kill me lol), Claire, Willy T, Adrian (still want those glasses), Tse, Alien, Kareem (where’s our pic?!) and Dale.

I finally got the chance to meet my namesake *Neeks*, oh my gosh that was a longggggg time coming. It was so nice to finally meet you in person. I swear I don’t think I’ve EVER seen someone so excited to see me lol. You the f’ing best!

It was relatively hard for me to get good pictures because I seemed to be pretty short in that crowd and there were alot of heads in the way. It was even HARDER for me to get proper video footage because Blake (and Shane) move around like madmen lol but regardless I made it happen.

Here they are enjoy! (Click the pics to enlarge them)
