SOTD: Toronto Part 2

28 Oct

Every city deserves love from its own.

Here’s another one for us. Ron D decided to do a mix of Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind” and put the fabulous Kim Davis as the songstress for the chorus. Came out pretty good, and my name made it sound even better. Yea, major boost there I know, especially when you hear my name lol.

Shoutouts to the beautiful city of TORONTO. There are so many places that I still need to explore in Toronto, but from what I know- I’m already in love with.

Fresh Not Frozen

5 Oct

Good Evening,

What a long and grueling weekend under my belt. Every minute I was on the move, which is cool. Saturday night of course was the Torontofresh Party “Fresh Not Frozen“. Thanks to everybody that came out and had fun, myself and my friends surely did. The music was poppin, but again what do you expect with Rych Kydd and Spoonz? The kept it going, I swear I was the most excited when I heard “Gimme More”. I kid you not- you don’t hear those kind of tunes in the club. Here are some of the pics:

Flygirl rolecall

30 Aug

I swear to you, there ain’t nothing like partying with Torontofresh. Real talk. It’s never a dull moment.

This past Friday I attended the “Photogenic” party for a bit and then “Summerbody Fit” (granted). The rain was tsunami-ish, it was absoultely ri-damn-diculous. I was expecting so much more from the last Friday in August but I should’ve known better. Thank God, I brought my umbrella with me or else I would have been down and out. The music was good at Photogenic but Summerbody Fit the music was POPPIN! Oh man, the guy/girl battles were hilarious! I haven’t been in a club and heard “No Scrubs” playing and the women SCREAMING the words at the fellas, only for “No Pigeons” to come in lol. Then “Bills, Bills, Bills” followed by “Chickenhead”, clever stuff. The MJ Tribute (Happy Birthday MJ!) followed by the Aaliyah set at the end (R.I.P Babygirl) was live. Goodtimes as usual.

*To my ladies I was rolling with, you all looked hella fly*

The Bridge

5 Jul

Good morning

As previously mentioned, a couple nights ago I went out to the Melanie Fiona show, despite the loss I had encountered earlier in the day. Even though I had commitments to go for different reasons, I wasn’t sure if I would be “normal” enough. I was told by a  friend that maybe it would be a nice healing experience and sure enough it was. Melanie Fiona is a beast in beautiful clothing.

The show started late, very late. By the time it actually started I was prepared to eat my own hand just for some food in my system. The show began after 9pm and by that point the room was packed, naturally I was right at the front ( I wasn’t playing around).  At the exact moment that Miss Fiona stepped on to the stage it was very apparent that she was dripping of Star Appeal. She gained the attention of the crowd right away and began to Thank her city for coming out and supporting her as this was her first show back.  Then it was down to business, she opened up the show with her song “Bang, Bang” and I kid you not, I sat there with my mouth open for about a minute. I was in complete awe of her. I turned to my homie Miss Asia Fiasco and she had the same exact look on her face, we looked at each other and just said “Damnnnnnnn”. As she sang a couple songs off her album and a couple surprises such as “Black and Gold” and “Killing Me Softly” I was convinced that she could sing anything with ease. When Melanie sang BLACK AND GOLD, oh Sweet Moses I was getting goosebumps. Her tone and the clarity in her voice reminds me of when R&B was at it’s best. The show was too short for my liking but I feel so blessed to have been able to see such an amazing humble star.

Melanie Fionas album is in stores right now, it’s called “The Bridge”. I have it and I must say you should go out and BUY it, it’s a solid R&B album. If you consider yourself to be a true R&B lover this album is definitely for you, it’s not a bunch of fluff put on an album just to fill space. Each song has it’s own place and own vibe, I’m really feeling the whole thing. I am definitely a big fan of Melanie’s and I wish that she continues to reap the successes of her hardwork, she definitely deserves it!

Toronto STAND UP!

(There are more videos coming, stupid me forgot I need a program to rotate the videos so I need to get that done first)

Change Clothes with the Fresh Family

4 Jul

Hola mi amigos/amigas,

How’s everybody doing? I’m doing oh so lovely, there is a “Sister, Sister” marathon on tv and it’s bringing back memories.  Do you all remember just how corny this show was? Woww.

Last night, myself and the Torontofresh family went out to the Fitting Room party at Dazzling Lounge.  Owwwweeeee it was a good party. The vibe was nice, DJ LRS & DJ Rych Kidd put it down. When I say put it down, I mean we were partying to Daft Punk, Modjo, Biggie, Destra, Machel, DJ Class, Serani and of course MJ. There was a little bit of everything for everybody. Definitely my kind of party.  Blake Carrington and Ron D held it down on the mic with minor distractions from groupie love. Good times for all!

I have to shoutout Miss Tameka Musiq(http://t-ismusiq.blogspot.com) that celebrated her birthday last night in the club. Hope you had fun mama.

The night was already live enough, then Shane Tone and Blake Carrington decided to perform their hit “Summerbody Fit“. Oh man, it was a wrap… except for one thing.

Soooo, Blake and Shane are from the Torontofresh camp so naturally we had to be at the front wildin out to the song right? If you see me vibing with my girls and we’re clearly doing our own thing do you think it’s appropriate to come and grab me up when I do not know you from Bob on the street? *Kiss teeth* So we’re dancing to the song, singing at the top of our lungs when some 5 foot nothing dude comes grabbing me up. He did it one time and I turned around and said “no thanks”  and I continued dancing. Instance number 2 he came a little more aggressive grabbing me and trying to wine up on me (by wine up I mean thrust like a dog humping a leg). Errrrrkssssssssss did I not just say “no thank you”, what are you slow?! At this point I am visibly annoyed because he’s throwing off my vibe with the song and downing my cheery mood. Don’t you think by the 2nd ‘no’ he would have realized I wasn’t having it? Apparently NOPE, because homeboy came back for a 3rd time grabbing me up. What did Neeks do you ask? The first thing that came to my mind, I pushed him against the Dj booth.  He looked at me as if I was on some kind of meth and his boy quickly came and said “Hey hey, no pushing” and I said “Tell your boy to stop grabbing me” as the little gremlin looked on as if he hadn’t done anything wrong. (Ron thank you for stepping in at this point♥). Seriously what comes over peoples minds? Do they temporarily lose it? Amnesia? What is it? I have no issues with people trying to dance with me, but there’s always a right way and a wrong way. Do not approach me and grab me up as if I’m property to you, it’s not a good look. Rant over.

Conclusion, if you weren’t there you missed out. I didn’t take many pics due to, I don’t know… the fun I was having I guess.

What a Night!

19 Jun

In continuation of my last post, this is how the night played out.  Upon leaving Curtis’ performance we headed downtown to meet up with Michelle and then head down to the other show.

This time we took in performances by Blake Carrington, Daniel Daley and KJ. Fabness indeed. This show had more of an intimate vibe which was great, all the performers had a good time interacting with their audience. The show started off with KJ, who again killed it. If you guys still haven’t caught one of his shows, you’re still slipping.

Blake Show June 16th 050

Next out the gate was R&B Crooner, Daniel Daley. He started off his set by singing his hit single “Girlfriend”, then had a heart to heart talk with the ladies before serenading with his song “Wanna be  Loved”.  After slowing it down with “Body Smile”, Daniel laughed and joked while imitating John Legend and doing a snippet of some Boyz II Men (hotttttt).  The crowd then began to chant ”…..4 play, 4 play, 4 play”, which lead to an impromptu performance with Ron D .  With that kind of love how could you deny such an eager crowd? That song concluded Daniels set.

Blake Show June 16th 063

By this point the crowd was already amped when Blake Carrington was called out to the stage. I’ll keep it short and sweet with this one, Blake did not disappoint. He kept us all moving, shaking and jumping. The man knows how to work the crowd. When Shane Tone came out to perform the banger “Summer body fit” it was already a wrap (look out for the dance coming soon).  The crowd was so live, it was ridiculous! Another great performance to add to Blakes already long list.

Blake Show June 16th 081

If the performances weren’t good enough, the night ended with a crazy jam. DJ James Redi and DJ Makem held-it-down! Oh my. We heard the likes of The Pointer Sisters, Diana Ross, DJ Class, Stevie Wonder, Daft Punk, Jay-Z, Curtis Blow, etc. Everybody just had a good ol’ time dancing the night away.

Another successful night in my books.

Shoutouts to: Tameka (I’m glad you took the time to come out mama, even though you missed the actual performances), Jesse (wuddup Blackie lol lol), Princess (again clothes are dope! Look out for her line y’all, it’s called “Alchemus”), Curtis (I’m shouting you out again, just cause you’re live lol).

It’s obvious I have to show love for Asia Fiasco, Mego aka the Cheetah Print Don, Willy T, Shane Tone and definitely not least Michelle. Y’all held me down for the night.

What a Day

18 Jun

Tuesday was an interesting day to say the least. Besides going to work and what not, I had the pleasure of attending another Blake Carrington Performance. Before that though, I headed out with my homeslices Megz and Char (aka Asia Fiasco) along with Willy to a free show for the community. They went to support their homie Curtis who was singing, so I rolled as well.  As usual, the flyness and the jokes were in attendance.

Curtis my dear, it was a pleasure dahlin lol. You are hilarious. We spent the early evening hanging out, taking in the performances, doing the Stanky leg lol.

Check the pics out

Did I mention y’all should be checking out http://discombobulatedtricks.blogspot.com and http://willy-t.blogspot.com/  . If you haven’t before, now you really have no excuse.

Neeks out!

Blake Carrington Crazy

13 Jun

Blake C Show 10th 035Finally,I mean FINALLY. It is about damn time, I’m able to post up my official coverage from the show.

So without further adieu here is my scoop from the night.

If you didn’t know already the show went down at The College St Bar located on 574 College St, TORONTO on June 10th. Ron D had a big hand in putting on the this event (good work) making sure everything ran smoothly. The resident DJ’s of the night, DJ James Redi and DJ Makem held it down before and during the performances. The show started a bit late (damn black people lol) but it started off with a bang. KJ an up and coming rapper from Toronto opened things up. Now I’ve been hearing about KJ for a minute, but never had the chance to take in his music or see him perform live. I’m glad that I was given the oppurtunity cause he’s fire. He has a cool laidback vibe to him and his music reflects that.

Needless to say, I was impressed.

After his set, the main act came out swinging. Blake Carrington tore that joint down. If you guys are not acquainted with Mr Blake C, then you better get familiar. I’ve known Blake for years now and I must say he continues to grow into a better artist.  Blake captivates the stage each time he goes out there with his charm and charisma. You can just see the hunger in his eyes when he’s performing. The females were hanging on to his every word especially through his lead single “Dreamgirl” and the unreleased “Summer Body fit” feat Shane Tone. Throughout his set he brought out the likes of Rich Kidd, Keegan Da’Niro (my baby daddy lol) and KJ .  They all brought something special to the stage.

There was a good turnout *thanks y’all*. Special shoutouts to my fly homies Megz & Char (2/3 of the discombobulated tricks), Michelle (you kill me lol), Claire, Willy T, Adrian (still want those glasses), Tse, Alien, Kareem (where’s our pic?!) and Dale.

I finally got the chance to meet my namesake *Neeks*, oh my gosh that was a longggggg time coming. It was so nice to finally meet you in person. I swear I don’t think I’ve EVER seen someone so excited to see me lol. You the f’ing best!

It was relatively hard for me to get good pictures because I seemed to be pretty short in that crowd and there were alot of heads in the way. It was even HARDER for me to get proper video footage because Blake (and Shane) move around like madmen lol but regardless I made it happen.

Here they are enjoy! (Click the pics to enlarge them)
