R.I.P Vibe

I don’t know how this slipped by me, but Toronto’s own Melanie Fiona is in the last issue of Vibe Magazine. VIBE paired up “six of the hottest NFL Players with five of R&B’s sexiest female artists. Melanie is paired with Darren Sharper of the N.O. Saints (who happens to be Gabrielle Unions ex).

Lucky girl! Look at that smile. Damnnnnnn

I had to share this, I think that it’s pretty damn big. I wish they would have taken a straight on shot of her face, the world needs to be acquainted with what she looks like. But hey I’m not the photog right lol? .

Her success really shows that Toronto has the potential to make it on the big stage. It’s not that often that someone from this city explodes on to the mainstream music scene.

The Worldwide Trap

Good morning,

It’s amazing that I even woke up this morning, seriously. Last night was rough, this whatever I have morphs every couple of hours to something more annoying. Last night it was some kind of neck pain that lead to a headache, this morning it’s more of the same thing with all the same coughing and what not. I don’t have much of a voice, yet I’m still at work! Hooray for me! Noone wants to go near me, cause they think I have the plague or some ‘ish… fabulous!

Topic of today is the Worldwide Web aka the Worldwide Trap. The internet was seriously a greattttt invention, think about it so many aspects of our lives would not be the same without it.  I would like to consider myself the Google Queen, anything I need to know I can find it on Google in less than 5 minutes. Some of it may or may not be accurate but I can find it.

Not only can you search for something on Google and be pleased with the results. On the downside you can also look for or even come across information that you didn’t necessarily want to see.  Since we all have the ability to interact with everyone from every city/town/country it’s very easy to get information from someone that you don’t even speak to on the regular basis.  It’s a blessing and a curse all at the same time.

Then where would we be without the likes of Facebook/Myspace/Tdotwire/Blackplanet/Hi 5/Asian Avenue/Migente/ Downelink (I think that was the name of it, I know about y’all too lol).  Oh the “social networking” sites, aka the Chopping Grounds. Who were you if you DIDN’T have one of these pages. I’m sure we’ve all met a lot of people that we’re probably still friends or acquaintances with and those that we wish we never ever encountered in our life.

The downsides to those sort of sites are the “Everything that glitters ain’t gold”  aspect. You know what I mean, the dudes that are ‘ballin’ out of control or are “gangsters for life” but in REAL LIFE… Negative!

Then we have the females that live on photoshop making their pics look right! On the internet they are Beyonce/Rihanna/Gabrielle/Halle/Serena all in one. Then when the guy that has been trying to meet her for awhile finally comes across her somewhere in real life and he realizes he really met Oprah/Roseanne/Whoopi/Star! Ouch. I know a couple of guys that have unfortunately gotten fooled by females, like that. Sucks, but that’s the all in mystery of the internet.

Moral of the story,  once you enter the worldwide web proceed with extreme caution. You never know what you’ll get out of it!

Is the age of Print, dead?

Happy Canada Day!!! (to those of you in Canada, the rest Happy Wednesday!)

How’s everybody doing? I don’t think I’m doing anything special today. If you do want something to do for a couple of hours, Mandarin is giving out free food today. The lines will be bananas so I hope you’re reading this from your laptop in the lineup. If you’re not and you want some free Chinese food head on down. The catch is you have to be a citizen (ironic right).  Whatever you do decide to partake in today, make sure you do your best to stay safe. I can’t stress the amount of crazies in this world.

(Happy 6 months to my amazing nephew Zavier <3)

Now that I’ve gotten that all out of the way, I’ll get to my topic. With yesterdays news of the demise of VIBE Magazine (R.I.P) it has me wondering what happened to the age of print literature. Everything is on the internet, EVERYTHING. Therefore people don’t see the point in going out and purchasing a magazine which is sad. Myself, I love buying magazines. My monthly purchases are Glamour and Cosmo, which gives me the perfect mix of fashion & life. Every now and then I’ll purchase something else because A) Beyonce is on the cover or B) Something interesting caught my eye on the cover. I love reading, I love being able to flip through a magazine and wonder what’s going to be on the next page. That’s exciting to me, therefore I find it sad that so many magazines are going under because they can’t keep up in this age of the www.

Do you guys remember when you were younger and you couldn’t wait for the new YM/Seventeen/BOP, etc to come out? I remember I used to cut out the pictures and stick them wherever they would stick and take out the posters and plaster my room with them. That was exciting. Those were the days.
